This is the new Range Rover Sport, which in some ways is very new. In others, it's a lot like its predecessor, which was a perfectly capable of tackling the worst hazards of the suburban wilderness. Instead of trips on safari, the Sport is more likely to make frequent trips to the zoo for small children. Billed as “Land Rover's fastest, most responsive and agile vehicle ever”, the Sport isn’t a sports car, but that didn't stop the last one from trying. The newest iteration has a standard 340-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6 backed by an eight-speed automatic, and the all new all-aluminum chassis is 800-lbs. lighter, which should substantially improve miles per gallon. For those who are more concerned with smiles per gallon than fuel economy there is an optional supercharged 510-hp 5.0-liter V8 which is just this side of ludicrously overpowered. And, for the rare few oddly inclined to off-road the ‘Sport’-ing SUV, there will be the usual barrage of systems from the standard Range Rover called Terrain Response® 2.
